There are instances when removing teeth is necessary to maintain oral health and avoid further issues. Davis Dental provides quality, safe tooth extraction care adapted to your situation. When you have severe cavitation, infection, overlapping, or impacted wisdom teeth, our office has treatment founded on progressive techniques, current equipment, and an unwavering dedication to patient comfort.

Why Tooth Extractions at Times Become Necessary

There are several reasons why a tooth has to be removed. A tooth severely damaged by decay or trauma may be beyond repair with a filling or crown. Gum disease loosens the teeth, and extraction is optimal. In other cases, removing a tooth allows the mouth to be prepared for orthodontics by eliminating overcrowding.

Wisdom teeth, or third molars, are the most frequently extracted teeth. They usually don't have sufficient space to develop fully. They can become impacted—stuck under the gum or jawbone—or erupt at an angle, pushing against the next teeth. Pain, infection, and other complications follow, so they have to be removed.

In our approach, we are also conservative at Davis Dental, where tooth removal is an issue. We will not remove a tooth unless it is the best or sole course of action for your long-term oral health.

What to Expect During a Tooth Extraction

Our number one concern is your well-being and health. For preparation for treatment, Dr. Patrick Davis and staff will assess your condition using digital imaging technology, which gives clean, crisp images with low levels of radiation exposure. This allows planning to be accurately completed and a more effective treatment procedure.

We start by numbing the area entirely with local anesthetic. On more difficult cases, like impacted wisdom teeth or anxious patients, we use IV sedation so you sleep through the procedure. Once the area is numb or you are sedated, Dr. Davis then gently removes the offending tooth with precision instruments that are fashioned to minimize trauma and result in success.

In surgical removal, an opening can be created in the gum to access the tooth. Wisdom teeth occasionally have to be sectioned—cut into sections before removal to avoid stress on the surrounding tissue.

With Dr. Davis' extensive surgical experience and precision dentistry, our patients hurt less and recover more rapidly.

Aftercare and Recovery

After-extraction care facilitates healing and reduces the risk of complications like dry sockets or infection. Following your tooth's extraction, we will provide you with gauze to bite on, which will help control bleeding and provide clotting support.

Our team will send you home with detailed aftercare instructions that include:

  • Pressing on top of the extraction site
  • No heavy work for 24 hours
  • Soft foods and no straws
  • Using over-the-counter or prescription medications to control pain and swelling

If you notice persistent swelling, bleeding, infection, or pain symptoms, we would be happy if you would call us. We would be more than happy to address any problem before or after the procedure.

Wisdom tooth extraction

Wisdom teeth removal is likely our most in-demand service at Davis Dental. Wisdom molars come in between 16 and 20 through the gum, and if there isn't sufficient space in the jaw, they could be sore, inflamed, or crowded.

Wisdom teeth often come in inadequately and are more likely to become infected and develop gum issues. Others are entirely stuck beneath the gums and will form cysts or press against adjacent teeth.

With sophisticated diagnostic technology such as intraoral cameras and digital X-rays, Dr. Davis locates your wisdom teeth and diagnoses if and when they need to be removed. If so, he performs the procedure with expert care, reducing trauma to surrounding tissues and prioritizing a smooth, controlled recovery.

Technology That Facilitates High-Standard Care

Davis Dental is pleased to be a high-tech, all-digital dental office. All extractions are planned with digital X-rays and imaging, enabling us to view underlying problems with the highest resolution and lowest radiation necessary. Intraoral cameras assist in locating damaged or blocked areas of the mouth and enable us to communicate about patients' care.

Our computerized record system facilitates smooth care coordination among hygienists, assistants, and physicians. For patients, this means consistent treatment and faster access to their records if they need follow-up care or referrals.
